Quinta Claro — Vineyard Villa in the Douro Valley (Sleeps 6, Private Pool)

Written by Jesse & Cassie, Wine Scribes — Jesse holds a degree in Viticulture & Enology from UC Davis and has made wine in Burgundy, Yarra Valley, California, Washington and the Douro Valley; Cassie holds WSET Level 2 with Distinction and assists Jesse with work in the vineyard and cellar.

We’re Jesse and Cassie. Jesse makes wine in the Douro Valley under our label Vespera Cellars, and when we’re not in the cellar or the vineyard, we’re hosting guests at Quinta Claro — our three-bedroom vineyard villa in the central Douro. We built this page because we’re tired of accommodation listings that tell you nothing useful. Here’s everything you actually need to know about the property, the location, and whether it’s the right fit for your trip.

About Quinta Claro

Quinta Claro is a modern, fully equipped three-bedroom villa on a working vineyard property in the central Douro — the Cima Corgo sub-region, between Peso da Régua and Pinhão. It sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms, has an infinity pool facing the terraced vineyards, and sits at an elevation where you catch the valley breeze even in July and August (a good thing, because it’s hot). Check our guide on best time to visit the Douro Valley.

We designed it the way we’d want to stay ourselves: proper kitchen equipment (not the token pots and blunt knives you find in most holiday rentals), fast Starlink internet for anyone working remotely (most Douro Airbnb’s and hotels have terrible internet), good mattresses, and enough outdoor space that six people don’t feel on top of each other. The infinity pool is the centrepiece — designed so the water line disappears into the vineyard view beyond.

The Location

The property sits in the central Douro — the heart of the best wine country in Portugal. You’re 15 minutes from Pinhão by car, 30 minutes from Peso da Régua, and within easy reach of the valley’s best wineries, restaurants, and viewpoints.

Three minutes down the road is DOC restaurant — Rui Paula’s flagship, built on a pontoon above the Douro River, and consistently one of the best restaurants in Portugal. We eat there ourselves. If you’re visiting the Douro and you don’t book a table at DOC, you’ve made a mistake. Staying at Quinta Claro means you can have a long wine dinner there and walk back.

The N222 — voted the world’s best road drive — runs right through the valley below. Pinhão, with its iconic azulejo-tiled train station and cluster of excellent quintas, is the nearest hub. Lamego, with the Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios staircase and the Six Senses spa, is 40 minutes south. Porto is under two hours.

What’s Included

Bedrooms: Three bedrooms sleeping up to six guests. The main bedroom has an en suite; the other two share a bathroom. All have linen and towels provided.

Pool: Private infinity pool with vineyard views. Heated in shoulder season. We keep it immaculate — it’s cleaned before every arrival.

Kitchen: Fully equipped. Proper hob, oven, good knives, wine glasses that are actually wine glasses. There’s a market in Armamar 7 minutes away and an even larger one in Régua 12 minutes away; Peso de Régua also has a wonderful Saturday morning market in São João da Pesqueira that’s worth the drive.

Internet: Starlink. Fast enough for remote work, video calls, and streaming. We’ve use it for everything; it works great.

Outdoor space: Pool terrace, outdoor dining area, vineyard access. In the evenings the views over the terraced vines with the valley lights below are something you don’t forget.

Wine: We stock the property with a bottle from Vespera Cellars and offer complementary tastings with your stay.

Who It’s Right For

Quinta Claro works best for groups of 4–6 who want a private base to explore the valley — couples travelling together, families with teenagers, or small groups of friends doing a wine trip. It’s not a hotel: there’s no restaurant, no daily housekeeping, no concierge service. You have the whole property to yourselves and you cook some meals, explore independently, and use the pool when you’re not out tasting. If that sounds like your trip, it’s a very good fit.

Couples looking for a romantic retreat can absolutely make it work — having a three-bedroom villa to yourselves means a lot of space and privacy. But at €300–400/night the value is clearest when you’re splitting it across 4–6 people.

What to Do During Your Stay

We’ve written a full 3-day Douro Valley itinerary that works perfectly from Quinta Claro as a base. The short version: Day 1 arrives, settles in, and eats at DOC. Day 2 is the wine day — Wine & Soul in Pinhão, the N222 drive, Quinta do Tedo. Day 3 is the Rabelo boat cruise from Régua and a detour to Lamego. You leave having seen the valley properly, not just ticked the tourist boxes.

Want to try local home-cooked meal? Our lovely neighbors who are also winemakers (and former chefs) will whip up an amazing meal at a reasonable rate–complete with sides, dessert and their own delicious wine.

Tour our property! We can arrange bottle tastings, barrel tastings, hikes, snack plates, farm tours, and library port tastings. We’ve also partnered with an incredible local tour company who can provide transportation around the Douro Valley including wine tastings, hikes, boat rides, kayaks, bike rides, anything really.

If you’re visiting during harvest (early to mid September), we can often arrange for guests to spend a morning in the vineyard or cellar with the Vespera Cellars team. It’s not a formal tour — it’s genuinely working alongside us. Let us know at booking if that interests you.

Pricing & Availability

Quinta Claro is listed on Airbnb at €300–400 per night depending on season. Peak season (July–August, September harvest) books earliest. The sweetest times to visit are May–June (wildflowers, cooler days, fewer crowds) and late October–November after harvest (golden vines, crisp mornings, excellent Douro table wines to drink).

Questions?

Message us directly through the Airbnb listing or reach out via the contact page. We answer personally — not through a property management company. If you have questions about the Douro — what to do, where to eat, what’s on during your dates — we’re genuinely happy to help. We live and work here. We know this valley.

Where exactly is Quinta Claro in the Douro Valley?

Quinta Claro is in the central Douro (Cima Corgo sub-region), between Peso da Régua and Pinhão. It is approximately 15 minutes from Pinhão by car, 30 minutes from Régua, and under 2 hours from Porto. The DOC restaurant — one of Portugal’s finest — is a 3-minute drive from the property.

How many guests does Quinta Claro sleep?

Quinta Claro has three bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 guests. The main bedroom has an en suite bathroom; the other two bedrooms share a second bathroom. It is rented as an exclusive whole-property stay — you do not share the villa with other guests.

Is Quinta Claro suitable for families with children?

Yes, though the infinity pool requires supervision for young children as it has an open edge design. The property has plenty of outdoor space and a large kitchen. We recommend it for families with children aged 8 and above. Please mention any young children when enquiring so we can discuss the pool setup.

Can I visit the winery during my stay?

During harvest season in early September, we often invite guests to partake in the winemaking activities–foot stomp the grapes! Outside harvest, we can arrange a cellar tour and tasting. We can also point you to the best winery visits in the valley — we know many of the winemakers personally and can make informal introductions.
