Updated December 2021
Top wine destinations in 2022
With December coming to a close, it’s time to start looking forward to a new year. Hopefully, we’ll all be able to travel soon. To get some trip ideas started, we put together a list of some of our favorites:
5. Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa
Why we love it: Beautiful vistas, fantastic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, extremely welcoming locals. Most people that make it to South Africa only stay around Stellenbosch; but we prefer Hemel-en-Aarde aka “Heaven on Earth”.
Don’t Miss: Ataraxia, Restless River, The Pinot Noir Festival (Covid permitting)

4. Santa Barbara, California
Why we love it: Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast may get all the attention for Pinot Noir in California, but we find the juice down south to be superior (and have a friendlier price tag). Large swaths of small batch producers operate tasting rooms downtown and the neighboring Los Olivos, giving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local juice.
Don’t Miss: SAMsARA Wine Co, Whitcraft Winery, Satellite Wine Bar
3. Margaret River, Western Australia
Why we love it: Delicious Cab Sav’s and Chardonnay with a side of zippy Riesling and savory Syrah–yes please. When you’ve had your fill at the many beautiful estates, some of the most impressive (and unpopulated) white-sand beaches are just around the corner.
Don’t Miss: Woodlands Winery, Pierro, Stingray Beach in Hamelin Bay
2. Mendoza, Argentina
Why we love it: The wine is great but is overshadowed by the incredible food. For the price of a 4-glass tasting in Napa, you can enjoy a 4 course chef’s curated lunch + wine pairing. Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Torrontes are the popular varietals here; with three distinct areas to visit, there is a plethora of experiences for anyone who enjoys comida y vino.
Don’t Miss: Lunch & tasting @ El Enemigo, Carmelo Patti, Asado BBQ with a local (check our guide to see how to accomplish this!)
1. Burgundy, France
Why we love it: The mecca of mecca’s for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lovers. After spending months here, we still can’t get enough: the wine, the food, the people, the markets, the old towns.. le sigh.. Navigating around this area can be a bit tough for non locals, so make sure to check out our full guide to Burgundy before you visit.
Don’t Miss: Domaine Rois Mages, Christian Clerget, Caves de l’Abbaye
