Most beautiful wine destinations in the world
With COVID dying down (hopefully) we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to travel more in 2023 than the past few years. To get some ideas going, we put together our list of the top 5 most scenic wine regions in the world.
All wine regions are pretty in some way, but these stand out above the rest. Click the name of each region to read more about how to plan your trip.
5. Central Otago – New Zealand
- Where is it: Southern island of New Zealand, just north of Queenstown.
- Why we love it: Gorgeous, massive mountains envelope shimmering lakes and winding rivers. High altitudes and steep slopes allow for stunning views everywhere you look. New Zealand’s most prestigious Pinot Noir is made here.

4. Douro Valley – Portugal
- Where is it: Northern Portugal, an hour+ drive east of Porto.
- Why we love it: Sprawling terraced vineyards flank a large river, accessible via car, train or boat. The main road in the Douro (N222) was ranked the #1 most scenic drive in the world. Countless breathtaking “miraduras” (viewpoints) accompany the wine tasting journey.

3. Columbia Gorge – Oregon/Washington
- Where is it: On the border of Oregon and Washington State, one hour drive east from Portland.
- Why we love it: Visually stunning cliffs on either end of a sprawling river. The wild wild west in terms of winemaking with various new producers, each with their own unique style. Vast amount of outdoor activities available nearby.
2021 was a special year for us as we produced our first vintage in The Columbia Gorge: Cassie Bella Wines.
2. Hemel-en-Aarde – South Africa
Where is it: South Africa’s western cape, 1.5 hr drive south from Cape Town.
Why you should visit: Beautiful vineyard vistas, coastal walks, fantastic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, extremely welcoming locals. Most people that make it to South Africa only get to see Stellenbosch; but Hemel-en-Aarde translates to “Heaven on Earth” for good reason.

1. Margaret River – Australia
- Where is it: West coast of Australia, a few hours drive south from Perth.
- Why we love it: Pristine white beaches and crystal clear waters are just a stone’s throw from a bustling wine scene. Still largely under the radar compared to other famous wine regions. The Cabernet, Riesling and Chardonnay are top notch.
